Cuba Mourns Fidel Castro

Hundreds of thousands of people are attending a ceremony in Havana in honor of the deceased revolutionary leader Fidel Castro. The Cuban government, led by Fidel’s brother Raul, and delegations sent by world leaders are making speeches to the crowd.

People gahtered near the Jose Marti Memorial on the north side of Havana’s Plaza de la Revolucion to honor the memory of Castro, who died at the age of 90 on Friday. After the Cuban Revolution, in February of 1959, Castro became Cuba’s leader and ruled until 2008, when he formally ceded power to his brother Raul. Even after stepping down, Fidel was still considered the most significant moral authority in Cuba.
